Lost and not yet found

MissingCuiting.jpg pres. cuiting of rb placer missing picture by unjaded_jade

I met this person two  years ago. It was in December 2007, if I am not mistaken. He is (was) a good person and very approachable. I was in Surigao City that visiting his company. His company was one of our partners in Caraga Region.

Early this year, I heard news that he was missing and is believed to be kidnapped by unknown elements. The news didn’t directly register to me because I was with h  im in November 2008. Who would have thought that he is gone with no trace? It was my area manager who informed me in January that President Winston Cuiting of Rural Bank of Placer was kidnapped. It was when I asked when can we schedule the next fund release for the bank.

Until today, President Cuiting is still missing. A bounty has already been raised from P200,000.00 to P1,000,000.00 for whoever can pinpoint the location of the president or can share information of his whereabouts. Posters of him had already been scattered and plastered in public places around Mindanao.

The case of President Cuiting is also a loss for our company not only for Rural Bank of Placer in Surigao del Norte. Our company stand to earn about a million pesos this year if this uneventful had not occurred. More people particularly the micro enterprises in the province would had benefited more from the financial services of the bank.

I hope that favorable information to finding him would surface now or sooner. He was believed to be kidnapped last January 7, 2009.

Hayden Camera

May 21, 2009

Another Update:

Just A Little Assertion

May 17, 2009

I admire Congress, both the House and Senate, for passing the Philippine Baseline Bill amidst protests and apprehensions of our neighboring countries that it would affect negotiations or talks regarding the Spratly Group of Islands, etc. Experts said that it was right for China to protest its passage because what was embodied in the bill is our rightful claim to the said groups of islands.

When the bill was passed, activities of China in the South China Sea were reported by different news agencies in the wire. There was a report that China had deployed warships in the Spratlys. Even a well-known Chinese columnist based in Hongkong had written a racist article because of his dismay. He coined Philippines as a country of servants. He even assailed that it’s ok that OFWs will not be tax by the host country so they could send it to Philippines and modernized our navy to attack China .

I can understand that he’s dismayed but Filipinos are not fool by attacking China or other countries even we have a mighty and powerful navy, air or military force. Filipinos are not arrogant. We are not aggressors. We only claim what is rightfully ours. Besides, it was a Filipino mariner and explorer who discovered these islands long time ago. The Filipino discoverer had sold this to the Republic of the Philippines during the Marcos administration. I saw an interview of the explorer’s daughter at ANC the other year.

The adoption of Kalayaan Island Group or Spratlys has been inked in the Presidential Decree No. 1596 issued by Pres. Ferdinand Marcos on June 11, 1977. It is stated in the decree why we had claimed these islands.

It is because this group of islands is believed to have mineral and oil reserves that Philippine neighboring countries including China had stake a claim.

Many feared that China will wage war against us. But why we should be afraid. No aggressor will ever win a war. They may kill many people, loot treasures and destroy properties but they could never win a war. A war is won in the heart of the people not by force.

By adopting the Baseline Bill, we had showed the world that no matter how small we are, i.e. AFP, we stand to protect what is ours.

The Philippine Baseline Act or Republic Act 9522 defines 24 nautical miles from our baseline as Philippine Territorial Zone, 200 nautical miles as our Exclusive Economic Zone and 350 nautical miles as our Exclusive Continental Shelf.

It has been two-months now since the bill was signed and I heard no news of new protest against it. We just need a little assertion. We should always stand our ground to protect our territory and exercise our sovereignty as an independent country.

Basta Pinoy, Hindi Basta-basta!

My Article on Sunstar

May 12, 2009

I wrote the article and send it through e-mail to Sunstar editor on March 23, 2009. I did not expect that it would saw print the following day. Actually, I did not know that it got printed until today when I did a search at their website. This is my second article; the first was when I was in Cebu and was printed by Sunstar Cebu.

I don’t know if the paper gives financial incentive/s to their contributors for they never tried to contact me or had replied to my e-mail. I thought I’ll get some cash from it. My former division chief submits articles to Inquirer and gets paid.

But, anyway, the article talked about the recent development of the retail financing products of my company, Small Business Corporation. It was all about the memo directing Business Development Units to cater to the various financing needs of farm-level agri-businesses.

Here’s the article posted in Sunstar Cagayan de Oro:

SBC now lends to farm-level agri-businesses

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

By Jade M. Montero

STATE-run Small Business Corporation (SBC) is now poised to extend financing programs to farm-level agri-businesses across the country.

This new development is timely in the midst of the global financial crunch that has led to multinational companies retrenching workers.

The move to provide a credit facility for farm-level agri-businesses is also in response to the mandate of the newly amended Magna Carta for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) or RA 9501, which was signed on May 23, 2008.

“Please be advised of the inclusion of farm-level agri-business activities across all financing programs of SBC, as approved and confirmed by the Credit Committee during its meeting on January 9, 2009,” the January 10, 2009 SBC memorandum reads.

SBC will provide direct financing to existing entrepreneurs in this sector, a sector the corporation didn’t serve in the past years. Though the corporation started to lend money to SMEs in this sector last year, it was done through its wholesale programs partnered with Accredited Financial Institutions (AFIs).

Businesses and entrepreneurs with a minimum loan requirement of P200,000 may avail of the credit facility for working capital, fixed assets, vehicles, and equipment purchases.

Those with loan requirements the corporation can’t serve are referred to its AFIs across the region.

SBC is a government financial institution created by virtue of Republic Act 6977 or the Magna Carta for Small Enterprises in January 22, 1991.

SBC is attached to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). In Northern Mindanao or Region 10, SBC is housed at National Economic Research and Assistance Center (NERBAC), a one-stop business assistance center, located in DTI Building, Corrales-Luna Streets, Cagayan de Oro City.

Bomb Scare at DTI-10

May 8, 2009

Work was interrupted at the Department of Trade of Industry Regional Office in Cagayan de Oro City from 3:00 - 5PM as requested by the bomb squad of the local city police.

A package delivered by LBC at 10AM was suspected to be a bomb.It bore only a name RAF/2 as consignee and a ten-digit contact number which starts with 113_______. It has no address of the consignee. The package was a 12 x 8 x 3 inches rectangular box made of cut plyboard that was fastened securely by ample of nails.

According to LBC personnel the package came from Paranaque City branch and it was from another international courier. There was no declaration as to what the content was, as relayed by LBC personnel.

The package was addressed to DTI Regional Director Eusena. And the director said she was not expecting any package from the name RAF.

With news of bomb exploding in some part of Mindanao, we were cautious enough to seek the help of the experts. Fortunate enough that it only contains a plaque.

P.S.

I was the one who received the package from the guard on duty. I was with Ate Elsie when it was delivered by the guard this morning. I even made a joke about it the time we received it. But we became somewhat scared after the package was open. You will suspect it as a bomb especially because of its packaging.
